about
Most of the lyrics to ‘Over The Bridge’ were written after elbé performed in the Workman’s Club in 2019 when songwriter Seamus was walking back to his car. The lyrics try to encapsulate the scenes of Dublin City on a busy Saturday night and what he witnessed. Fusing these scenes with memories of youth and first independence created imagined storylines for the characters passing by. Themes of first love, temptation and hope are explored against the backdrop of the dangers of real life and consequences.
lyrics
Falling these heights,
And the sinner is lost,
And she's last again,
my dear, my love
Over the bridge,
I know, the effigies burn,
Oh they burn.
I know he says he's sorry, so follow me down to the river,
Oh my dear, my love
I know you are
Someone who left his own, its true,
You, you are
Someone falling, fading, faint.
None of us are saints,
But I’m acquainted with the,
So why don't you
Acquainted with the,
So why don't you
Got no reason to, need a reason why, feelings I can’t hide, are you shy too?
Got no reason to, need a reason why, feelings I can’t hide, are you shy too?
Oh the effigies burn,
Oh they burn.
I know he says he's sorry, so follow me down to the river,
follow me down to the river,
Oh my dear, my love
